“Paul Jackson,” David said after a few keyboard taps. “Branch manager. Been there almost three years.”


“How long has he had payroll authorization?”

A pause.

“Two years and eight months.”

Andrew closed his eyes.

There it was.

When he reopened them, his voice was calm. “Pull everything. Emails, approvals, timecard adjustments, compensation records. Loop in legal. Quietly.”

“Yes, sir.”

“And David?”

“Yes?”

“Don’t warn anybody.”

Andrew ended the call and sat very still while the coffee cooled in front of him.

He thought about Walter Peters.
