For two days, Silvie refused to emerge. The rhythm of her life was broken. She only crept out into the kitchen at two in the morning, when the condo was dead quiet, to swallow a few mouthfuls of dry kibble before sprinting back to her hiding spot. She was too cold to sleep deeply.
