Scout stood over him. She smelled his ears, his paws, his belly. Then she gave his face one firm lick and looked toward Owen, who stood quietly beside the car with both hands tucked in his jacket pockets.
“I can see that,” Cal answered.
Owen swallowed and looked at Scout. “Does she miss him?”
