“I deserved it.”

“You needed it.”

She nodded.

Richard appeared in the doorway.

“What are you two whispering about?”

Caroline looked at me.

I looked at her.

“Breakfast schedules,” I said.

Richard frowned.

Caroline burst out laughing.

“What did I miss?”

“Nothing, Dad.”

She walked over and kissed his cheek.
