I Left My House Empty Three Days Before Christmas

Not one person asked if I was exhausted.

Not one person thanked me.

Not one person wondered whether I wanted a peaceful Christmas too.

When the grandchildren finally went home…

The house became silent again.

And I realized I had spent another Christmas taking care of everyone except myself.

This year looked no different.
