I was cleaning the pool this morning when I suddenly noticed this.

part of the encounter was not really the creature itself.

It was how dramatically my reaction changed once I knew its name.

Before identification, every detail seemed sinister.

The body looked swollen.

The tail looked unnatural.

The movement looked suspicious.

After identification, those same features had straightforward explanations.
