I was cleaning the pool this morning when I suddenly noticed this.

the creature had not possessed such an extraordinary breathing tube, I probably would not have reacted as strongly.

That single feature transformed an otherwise small larva into something that looked almost impossible.

Yet the tube was completely normal for the species.

It was neither a deformity nor a sign of something dangerous.
