My brain did a stupid thing. It tried to make that sentence normal. It tried to find the version where my parents had opened a card in my name as a surprise gift, like a toaster, like socks.
Then the rest of me caught up.
“You opened a credit card in my name.”
“For emergencies,” she said.
I heard myself say, “How much?”
No one answered.
“How much?”
