My Parents Saw My Son And Knew

Thick cream paper. The law firm’s name stamped in the corner. This one had broken all my sleep for three weeks.

“I almost didn’t come,” I said. “Then I read what was inside.”

Dad took it with hands that didn’t quite obey him anymore. Mom moved to his side and leaned over his shoulder.

Inside was a typed letter on plain paper.
