“Good morning,” I said, my throat dry. “I’m sorry to bother you. My daughter says she saw a boy at your window.”
The woman smiled without showing her teeth.
“There are no children here, ma’am.”
James stepped forward.
“Can we speak to your husband?”
“He’s sick.”
