The Puppy Had a Note Tied to Her Paw-and Someone Promised to Call at Noon

It bumped the wall and returned toward her. Sophie trapped it beneath one paw, stared at it, and pounced.

She chased it for less than a minute before becoming tired, but for those seconds she was not a frightened animal guarding a piece of paper. She was a puppy.
