I Let Him Finish Laughing First

I started laughing.

Really laughing.

So hard my forehead hit the steering wheel once.

My mother looked at me, then at the sandwich, then she started too. Small at first. Then gone.

“What?” she said.

“You brought a sandwich to my wedding.”

“I didn’t know how long this federal thing was gonna take.”
